Health Canada intends to amend the tent and toy regulations

Health Canada has issued a notice to relevant parties requesting their feedback on the proposal to change the Tent Regulations (SOR/2016-185), which also includes changes to the Toy Regulations.
The proposal proposes to update the flammability and labeling requirements in the "Tent Regulations" in order to solve the problem of materials made of materials with different combustion characteristics compared with the tent materials sold on the market when the "Tent Regulations" was first issued (1988). Flammability risk of tents. The proposal also includes the transfer of some of the requirements for amusement tents to the "Toys Regulations."
The proposed changes to the regulations include the following:
Change the requirements in the "Tent" regulations to cover the requirements in CAN/CGSB-182.1, including the product range. The product range includes tents for outdoor use. Children's play tents that are only for indoor use are not included in the product range. The proposed release date of CAN/CGSB-182.1 is March 31, 2019.
Taking into account the following factors, update the "Toys Regulations" to include the flammability and fire safety labeling requirements for children's play tents that are restricted to indoor use:
· Replace "play tent" with the term "toys intended for children to enter" in order to be consistent with the description of ISO 8124-2:2014 and EN71-2:2011+A1:2014. Such toys are defined as toys that at least partially surround children, including toy tents, puppet theaters, huts, and amusement passages, but do not include open canopies. This definition applies to toys made of flexible materials (such as fabric, vinyl), and does not apply to toys made of rigid materials.
· Other amendments to the flammability requirements that Health Canada is considering include the requirements for soft toys in the Toys Regulations, or ISO 8124-2:2014 and EN71-2:2011+A1:2014 for intended children Relevant requirements for the toys entered.
Prohibit or restrict the use of flame retardants in tents, play tents, and other toys that may be subject to flammability requirements.
